Outsized Cargo with Antonov AN-124 to China

Our airfreight team from the Cargo & Logistics division has been known for decades for solving any logistical challenge. Flexible solutions for international airfreight logistics from products, electronics, machines and valuables to go-now, external load transports or emergency logistics are among our typical tasks.

For example, ProAir flew a total of 84 tonnes of cargo from Leipzig to China in October 2021 – a typical order from our specialist area Outsized Cargo:

A transport aircraft with an enormous payload and very large loading volume was needed to transport 84 tonnes of cargo for a special machinery manufacturer. Conventional cargo planes were out of the question due to their limited cargo masses and dimensions as well as scarce capacities on the market caused by the high global demand. But our logistics experts quickly found the right aircraft: the Antonov AN-124-100M-150, the largest series-produced cargo aircraft in the world, flew to its destination in Chengdu, China, with several stops.

Alexander Kratochwil, one of our cargo specialists, was on site at the departure in Leipzig and reports on the challenges:

“In addition to the bureaucratic effort of obtaining traffic rights for China, the loading of a single piece weighing over 30 tonnes onto the plane was particularly difficult. Since the box was the maximum size that could be loaded, the aircraft’s own crane system and the crew were pushed to their limits. But thanks to our precise preparations, everything fit exactly to the centimetre.”

Alexander Kratochwil, ProAir-Charter-Transport GmbH

ProAir was in close contact with the customer, the airline and the authorities throughout the entire project and organised all project steps. In the end, our customer was very satisfied and happy to have the ProAir team at his side.
